1. Salutations unto the limitless eternal universal self who is imperceptible and free from all superimposed attributes. Salutations to the cause of all causes.
2. The self (ätmä) is the support of everything, indivisible, pervading the entire creation an immutable. (It is) the ruler of everything, cause of all activity yet free from activity. (The self is) The absolute beyond absolutes, ever peaceful, and accommodates everything. To achieve immortality, this self is being enquired into.
3. Who can deny (the existence of) this self-existent self-evident ätmä that is (uniformlly present) in the believer an non believer; (present) in sleep as well as waking.
4. Who can deny (the existence of) the ätmä that resides within their own bodies? Since all beings become pleased and happy when they are with themselves (at rest as in sleep, meditation, etc.), the self is easily revealed by the word “lovable” in its implied sense.
